Glenwood City Elementary School Addition
Some problems encountered during construction and the solutions.
Problem:
There were numerous, masonry partition walls on the second floor of the elementary wing. It would have taken the subcontractor an extra three weeks to work around the roof joists.
Solution:
By letting the contractor finish the partitions and assuring they were laid out properly, so they did not affect the structural, saved three weeks on the schedule.
Problem:
A cistern, not shown on any of the drawings, was discovered at the corner of the existing junior high building.
Solution:
By reviewing the situation immediately, we found the cistern could be filled with concrete. The work force shifted until the matter was resolved.
Approached Problems as Challenges
Throughout the project, Doc approached all of our problems as challenges, collecting accurate data and creatively searching for solutions. He never overreacted to our challenges."
